When I was a little girl, I remember the first thing I wanted to be was a princess--ironic for someone who grew up in a Soviet household with both grandads as high military officials. I should have wanted to be a good commrade and go into politics or something. But somehow, I thought being a princess would be the best job ever.
However, even as a child I was conflicted because when I was picked to play the prestigious role of Father Winter's granddaughter, the snow princess Snegurochka (the role always went to the prettiest girl in the daycare), I cried and screamed that I didn't want to do it. It's one of my first memories--crying while my parents were trying to get me to get it together. I really wish I had the picture that the photographer finally managed to snap because the look of disgust and anxiety on my face was priceless. It's somewhere tucked away with all the other pictures of me as a child giving bitchface to the camera because I really hated having my picture taken.
So, flash forward 24 years to when I got invited to a black tie event with a prince in attendance the night before I had to go. I love getting ready at the last minute. NOT.
I realized there was no way that I was going to be able to get done everything I needed to get done that day, including my makeup. I had to get to midtown to pick up a dress, get my nails done, stop by the XO offices, head to the Upper West Side to pick up jewelry, and then get back to Williamsburg to get ready. No time for hair and makeup. FML.
No. I didn't cry and have a temper tantrum. I'm much older and wiser now (you: that's debatable). I realized that the only decent time I was going to get in front of a mirror was in the back of a cab on my way to the event itself.
I was riding solo, so I didn't have anyone to take pictures of me applying the makeup, so Annie and I did a reenactment in the office. So, like, pretend I'm sitting in a cab and in my fancy dress which I had to return so that's why I'm wearing something completely different.
I don't wear foundation because my skin is super sensitive, so instead I used my best friend Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, and then topped it off with Pacifica Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream. It took my skin from drab, tired and hungover to acceptable.
I then used my favorite concealer by Smashbox and covered all my blemishes/activity/dark circles/etc. I was doing this all with my fingers, by the way.
So now that I've tried to brighten my skin and even it out in general, it's time for the fun stuff.
I forgot eyeshadow, so I did what I always do: apply concealer to my upper lids. I topped off the look with the Too Faced Better Than False Lashes. I then applied highlighter to my cheekbones, because that's important.
Finally, since my eye makeup is pretty understated, I needed something to make my face really stand out: bright red lipstick. I used my mystery red lipstick from Make Up For Ever (and I will find the true name of it and tell you guys as soon as I can, I promise).
I was going to put on some blush but forgot it, too. I used my grandma's favorite makeup trick and rubbed a little of my lipstick along under my cheekbones. I then topped the whole look off with LUSH's translucent face powder, Emotional Brilliance.
I managed to get this look within a good 15 minutes. What do you think? What's the fanciest thing you've gotten ready for crazy-fast?
